
New Kind Of Tug Power
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to deliver engines and propulsion systems for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs.
The two vessels have been ordered by Norwegian company Buksér og Berging AS and will enter service in late 2013 for Statoil, the international energy company, and Gassco, the operator of the gas transportation network off the Norwegian coast.
Weihai Haida Orders MAN-Powered Ferry
Weihai Haida Ferry Co., operating in Northeast China, has placed an order for a 2200-passenger/1100 m Ropax ferry featuring a MAN Diesel & Turbo propulsion package.
Weihai Haida is the operator on the route between the major cities of Weihai and Dalian on opposite sides of the Bohai strait in Northeast China, where the company undertakes a Ropax service. Weihai Haida currently has two vessels in its fleet operating on the route – the Xin Shen Shen and Shen Shen 1 – with the former shortly due to exit service.
Weichai’s Owner Takes Over Yacht Builder
Shandong Heavy, parent company of diesel engine maker Weichai Power Co Ltd., is taking a 75% stake in Italian yachtmaker Ferretti Group.
According to reports, Shandong said the company would provide Ferretti with resources including “new marketing channels and capital support to expand more effectively into emerging markets.”
Two TCS-PTGs All Abroad Marine Vessels
MAN Diesel & Turbo has received an order for two turbo compound systems including power turbine and generator (TCS-PTG) from Samjin Shipbuilding in Weihai, China.
The TCS-PTGs will be employed aboard two 4700 TEU container vessels currently under construction. Individual MAN B&W 6S80ME-C9.2 low-speed engines will power the vessels, which will be operated by German shipowner Reederei Horst Zeppenfeld.
MAN PrimeServe Signs Two Maintenance Contracts
MAN PrimeServ Shanghai has signed two maintenance contracts – worth more than €4 million – with COSCO, the state-owned Chinese shipping group.
The first contract covers the retrofit of 32 vessels from the COSCO Bulk Carrier fleet with slide-fuel valves. It also includes the retrofit of 7+6 vessels with Alpha Lubricators.
